Repair procedures: DJI O3 Air Unit

Maintenance and owner repairs, compiled from DJI's official repair manuals and support articles. These aren't official DJI documents — where DJI publishes guidance we follow it and link to it, and where we couldn't verify a detail for this model we say so rather than guess.

⚠ Before any hands-on work

What DJI says you can fix yourself

DJI's official DJI Avata & Neo Series Repair Manual covers the air units. Unlike the aircraft, it treats each part of the air unit as separately replaceable:

Outer shell of the camera, antenna or transmission module crackedReplace that module
Abnormal image — blurry, stripes or noiseReplace the camera module
Won't power onTry a new 3-in-1 cable; if that doesn't fix it, replace the transmission module
Won't linkTry a new antenna; if that doesn't fix it, replace the transmission module

Procedures

Air unit won't power on

When the air unit shows no sign of life.

  1. Disconnect the flight battery before handling any wiring.
  2. Swap in a known-good 3-in-1 cable and try again.
  3. If it now powers on, the cable was faulty. If not, DJI's manual identifies the transmission module as the faulty part.

Won't link to goggles

When pairing fails or the link keeps dropping.

  1. Update the air unit and goggles to the latest firmware first.
  2. Disconnect the battery, then swap in a known-good antenna.
  3. If it now links, the antenna was damaged. If not, DJI's manual identifies the transmission module as the faulty part.

Poor or broken image

Blurry picture, stripes or noise in the camera view.

  1. Clean the camera lens.
  2. If the image stays abnormal, DJI's manual says to replace the camera module.

Update or reinstall firmware

When the app prompts an update, after an update fails, or if the drone misbehaves after one.

  1. Update through the app whenever prompted. Update the drone, the controller and every battery — mismatched versions cause connection and battery errors.
  2. Keep the battery charged and don't disconnect or power off mid-update.
  3. If an update fails or the drone won't start afterwards, connect it to a computer with DJI Assistant 2 (DJI's download page lists the right version for your drone), open the firmware section, and reinstall.
  4. Use a good-quality data cable — charge-only cables won't work.

The drone stays powered on and connected throughout — like the calibrations above, this is done with the drone switched on.

Hardware repairs

DJI supports replacing the air unit's camera module, 3-in-1 cable, antenna and transmission module individually — use the procedures above to work out which part has failed.
